Vinous 87 points - (barrel-fermented, including a bit of new oak): Brilliant light yellow. Sexy vanilla and spicy oak tones over white peach and lemon on the rather polite nose. Supple and refreshing, with citrus and stone fruit flavors complicated by a saline element. Cropped at 10 to 12 tons per hectare, but neither dilute nor short.
The 2014 Fleur du Cap Chardonnay has a light straw yellow color with tints of green and gold. On the nose it shows melon and lime with some lovely stewed fruit aromas finishing off with a hint of oak spices. On the palate it is a medium bodied wine with a good array of fruit, good balance of sweetness and acidity and a long, pleasant finish.
|An ideal accompaniment to sushi, oysters and full-flavoured fish such as tuna and salmon. Excellent with pasta or white meat dishes in rich, creamy sauces.
|One of South Africa’s premier and best-known labels, Fleur du Cap, is a member of the Distell group.
The Fleur du Cap wines are made from grapes meticulously selected from superior vineyard blocks in the Cape Coastal region and are made in a contemporary style which captures and reflects the highly sought-after qualities of varietal character and terroir.
Leading the way, this new generation of wines is crafted in compliance with universal guidelines to ensure environmentally friendly winemaking practices. Winemaker Andrea Freeborough strives to make well-versed wines that reflect minimal intervention in the cellar. Great skill, unwavering dedication and participative team work lies behind the success of the Fleur du Cap wines.
