Vinous 87 points - (62% Shiraz, 14% Mourvedre, 11% Grenach, 9% Durif, 2% Cinsault and 2% Carignan): Good medium red. Red berries, cherry and spices on the nose, lifted by floral and minty nuances. Supple and pliant on the palate but a bit diffuse, with red fruit flavors joined by leather and licorice nuances. Finishes with slightly dusty tannins. The small percentage of Petite Sirah (i.e., Durif) contributes structure. Charles Back noted that he has resisted pressure to make this highly successful wine sweeter and more commercial.
Bright ruby in the glass. Plums and red berry with cinnamon spice aromas. Medium bodied with silky juicy tannin and subtle vanilla on the palate.
