Ultimate Beverage Challenge 91 points - Bright sunshine yellow color. The first aromas are intensely grainy and woody, with nuances of sea breeze, unbuttered toasted multigrain bread, and baking spices, especially mace and nutmeg, salted fish, malted milk balls. Flavors are vivid, slightly smoky (pipe tobacco), and underpinned by vanilla extract, marmalade, toasted muffins. Aftertaste is richly textured, honeyed. Lovely, sophisticated malt. (Mar 2015)
A splash of water releases tangy seaweed tempered by sweet vanilla ice cream and sugared almonds. Sip bursts of tangy ripe clementines, lemon sherbet, and grapefruit. Deeper layers of peppery peat, pistachio, and pine nuts are carried by a wave of smooth vanilla. Savour rippling layers of citrus, bourbon vanilla spice, and wispy smoke.
|Bowmore’s celebrated Single Malt has been distilled on this jewel of an island, the Queen of the Hebrides, ever since 1779. This makes it the first of Islay’s eight distilleries chronologically speaking (and by taste too, many would say). Now, as then, Bowmore is widely acknowledged to be among the finest and most perfectly balanced single malts in the world.
