Our 2012 Zinfandel captures everything we love about this varietal. Extremely approachable and thoroughly enjoyable, it combines rich berry fruits, pleasant spices and deep, smooth body. Brambly dark fruit is framed by sweet oak spices. The palate is juicy and long and the tannins round and supple. A dash of Petit Sirah provides inky color, supporting the fruit with mouth-coating chocolate notes.
|Wine maker notes
|The majority of the grapes for this wine came from vineyards located in Paso Robles. This region, which sits just east of the Santa Lucia Mountains, is known for its Zinfandel, a varietal that thrives in warmer climates. Due to its close proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the nights remain slightly chilly, but the days are generally long, dry and quite hot.
Harvesting the Zinfandel at the peak of maturity, we were able to capture the ripe, jammy-berry fruit that exhibits classic California style. During fermentation, we pumped the juice over the cap approximately three times a day. This allows for maximum extraction of flavors and color, as well as providing necessary aeration that feeds the yeast.
|Think roasted rack of lamb, steak or gnocchi when you pop the cork on a bottle of this Zinfandel
