Wine Enthusiast 89 points - Dark amber color and brooding, smoky scent. Although intense peat is characteristic of Islay Scotches and Ardbeg in particular, here the smoke goes too far. It starts with lovely vanilla, brine and light smoke, but the peat party simply goes on far too long. Adding water softens the feel of this cask-strength Scotch, but does nothing to dampen the smoke. - K.N.  (Dec 2011)

Ultimate Beverage Challenge 96 points - (UB Collection,Finalist,Tried & True Award)- Color of golden wheat field. Smells seductively of peat smoke, cigar ash, tobacco, sea salt, smoked fish, campfire. Taste profile is toasty, semisweet, honeyed, multilayered, toffee-like. Amazingly elegant, considering the peat level. Classic. (Mar 2015)

Rich and weighty with heady and smoky aromatics, this expression of Ardbeg is both intensely flavored and perfectly integrated. At full strength, the initial aroma is a beguiling mix of warm Christmas cake, walnut oil and parma violets fused with fresh ocean spice, cedar and pine needles falling from the Christmas tree. Full flavored and rich with a deep mouth-coating texture, the taste is an intriguing balance between sweet, spicy and deep smoky flavors.

Ardbeg has been voted the best Whisky in the world; 3 years in a row. And in the world of Ardbeg, peat is important. For it is this soggy, unassuming matter which gives Ardbeg its famous flavour. Ardbeg is the PEATIEST and SMOKIEST of all the Islay malts, yet has a fruity floral sweetness and complexity to the spirit.
