Wine Spectator 90 points - The 2012 Merlot Canoe Ridge Estate Vineyard, which has 10% of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, is a fruit-forward, plump, earthy, medium-bodied red that gives up notions of black cherries, spice, earth and hints of truffle. It saw 16 months in 54% new French and American oak and should drink nicely for 3-4 years.
The Canoe Ridge Estate Merlot is an elegant expression of Washington Merlot and offers dark cherry fruit character. A warming trend and drier conditions from late July through mid- October 2012 were ideal for fruit ripening. This Merlot is a great food wine and its dusty tannins make it a perfect match with classic Italian food.
